Search Tips
By default, the search engine will show you pages with the words you entered. It tries to locate pages which have exact matches for all of the words you entered in your search query. If that fails, it then tries to locate pages which contain any words in your search query. If that happens a short message is displayed at the top of the search results indicating this has been done.
In addition, there are several ways to modify the default search behavior.
1. + and - qualifiers
You can add
+ to a word that is required to be on the page.
You can add
- to a word that is required not to be on the page.
Example:
"+always -never"
2.* wildcard
You can end a query word with
* to find all words on a page which start the same way.
Example:
"gift*" could find gift, gifts, gifted.
3.? wildcard
You can put
? in a query word to find words which contain any character in that position.
Example:
"b?g" could find bag, big, bug.
All of these techniques can be combined.
Example:
"+alway* -ne??r*"
